Don’t Wake Me Up When the Festival Ends!

The first half of the year in Edinburgh is filled with the hype and build up to the Edinburgh Festivals. August is so full of colour, excitement and new experiences that I can already hear people shouting “don’t wake me up when the festival ends!” (any one getting the vague attempt at a pun with a famous song there? No? Ok then…moving swiftly on!). Don’t worry, our fair city doesn’t just cut you off “cold-turkey” from great events and entertainment when the Fringe Festival ends on the 31st August, here’s a taster of things to come in September…

Virgin Money Fireworks Concert

Monday 31st August sees the Festivals end with a bang…literally! The Virgin Money Firework Concert is set against the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra perform an incredible concert that is choreographed to the fireworks. It really has to be on your list of things to see this year – you won’t be disappointed! Take advantage of our Last Minute Deal for August to make sure you have a warm bed to return to after a night in the fresh Edinburgh air (yes we know it’s August, but that means nothing in Scotland!).

Foo Fighters Return!

WFoo fighters 2015 tour promotional shote’re sure you’ve all heard about the accident that the ‘nicest man in rock’, Dave Grohl, had which led to the cancellation of the Foo Fighters gig at BT Murrayfield. Well good news…the gig is returning on Tuesday 8th September with special guests, Royal Blood and Glasgow duo Honeyblood. If you managed to get tickets we’re very jealous! We’ll be leaning out of the Skerries windows in an attempt to hear from the hotel…!! If you want more proof that Dave Grohl is the nicest man in rock and haven’t seen already, then there’s the incredible video (here) of 1,000 fans in Cesena, Italy simultaneously playing Foo Fighter’s hit “Learn To Fly” in an attempt to get the Foo Fighters to come and play in their town….it’s worked!

Anyway, back to the 8th September at BT Murrayfield, The Dunstane and Skerries Restaurant will be open and serving up ‘Beer and a Burger’ before the gig, so we’ll see you then!

On At The Playhouse

Dirty rotten Scoundrels promotional poster 2015Looking for a real treat? A night at the Playhouse Theatre should do the trick! First up from the 15th-19th September is a show based on the Sir Michael Cain and Steve Martin film – Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, set in the French Riviera where two conmen attempt to con a millionaire heiress! Described as “sophisticated, suave with a good dash of mischief” it’ll be a great show.

After that from the 29th September – 10th October is the stage adaptation of the famous Whitney Houston musical, The Bodyguard, staring x-Factor winner Alexandra Burke. We can’t talk about the Playhouse with out sneaking further into October when the brilliant comedian Kevin Bridges bring us his ‘A Whole Different Story’ Tour from the 14th – 18th October.
