Letters which spell LOVE on a wooden table to promote valentines

Alphabet Dating in Edinburgh: Part 2

Last Valentine’s Day we discovered the idea of “Alphabet Dating”, where couples go on a series of dates, each themed by a letter of the alphabet. In Alphabet Dating in Edinburgh: Part 1 we looked at date ideas for letters A to F, so this year we’re bringing you part 2 .. letters G to L.

G – Ghost Tour

Mercat ToursEdinburgh is not short of fantastic ghost tours. Check out our friends at Mercat Tours who have a brilliant selection of tours, from “Hidden and Haunted” to “Ghostly Underground”. We’re getting shivers just thinking about it! There are weird and wonderful stories you’ll never forget on these tours.

H – Hiking

Don’t be put off by the word ‘hiking’. Climbing up Edinburgh’s extinct volcano, Arthur’s Seat, is a great workout but relatively easy to manage. Plus the view from the top is well worth it. For a slightly easier walk, there are also fantastic views to be had from the top of Calton Hill.

I – Ice Cream

Marys Milk BarMary’s Milk Bar in the Grassmarket has fast become an Edinburgh favourite with fans of ice cream and chocolate. Mary makes the ice cream every morning using fresh, natural ingredients. With flavours that change every single day, there’s always something new to sample. This cosy ice cream bar is surely a winner for any date!

J – Jupiter Artland

This stunning sculpture park is just 25 minutes drive from Edinburgh city centre. Jupiter Artland is open on selected days from May to October, and every day in July and August, so it’s the perfect summer date for art lovers.

K – Kayaking

KayakingFor adventurous types, how about a spot of kayaking on the Firth of Forth? It’s great fun and you may be lucky enough to encounter seals, dolphins, porpoise, a huge variety of coastal birds or perhaps even a whale. Dun Eideann Sea Kayaking offer guided trips for beginners and experienced kayakers. This is another summer activity for obvious reasons!

L – Live Music

Impress your date with tickets to see their favourite artist or band. There are plenty of live venues in Edinburgh covering all genres of music. Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh Corn Exchange, Usher Hall, Queens Hall, Voodoo Rooms and Liquid Room are all popular venues for concerts and gigs. Not forgetting BT Murrayfield Stadium, just round the corner from us at The Dunstane Hotel.

That’s twelve dates in the bag! Look out for in part 3 of Alphabet Dating in Edinburgh for more ideas.
